Who will ski and who will snowboard?

The ski/snowboard program is part of the Ophir School Physical Education Curriculum.  It is required for all students in grades 1st – 5th to participate in the ski program. (No exceptions!)
Students who are in grades 6th – 8th grade may participate in the snowboard program or the ski program

Who teaches the students?

The ski and snowboard instructors are certified ski and snowboard instructors from the Big Ski Resort.

What is the cost?

The cost is free to students at Ophir School.  This includes rentals, season ski pass, and instruction.  Ophir School Counsel of Ophir School and the Big Ski Resort pays for the cost of the ski /snowboard program.

Ski Passes

All Ophir Students have been issued ski passes.  You are required to bring it with you on ski days.  If you forget, please see Mike Coon.

What about Ophir Students who are on the Ski Team?

Ophir Students who are on the BSSEF Ski Team may ski with the Ski Team providing that the parents of these students come to the school and sign them out.  Once the student is signed out, the school is no longer responsible for that student for the remainder of that day.  If a parent does not sign out and pick up their child, that student is still under the care of Ophir School and will remain at the school.

Can students stay on the mountain after skiing / snowboarding?

Students are allowed to stay on the mountain after skiing / snowboarding provided that a note has been given to Mike Coon by 8:30 a.m. the day of the ski/snowboard day.
Parents who work on the mountain and prefer their children stay with them may write one note for the entire season.  However, their children will not ride the bus down the mountain unless the above procedure is followed.

Conduct

Please remember:  Participating in the ski/snowboard program is a privilege, not a right.  Appropriate conduct will be observed at all times.  If a student acts inappropriately, they may jeopardize their participation in the program.

What do the students need to bring?

Students need to come to school prepared to ski.  Please remember to bring a good ski jacket, ski pants, goggles, gloves, and anything that will aid in keeping them warm.  If you feel that your child does not have appropriate ski attire, please see Mike Coon.

On ski days, do teachers get to have a free ski day?

Absolutely not!  Teachers have specific duties and work very hard to help students make their time on the mountain more enjoyable and efficient.
