HORSES/FOR SALE

April 2003~You know, we all have that special
horse in our lives, memories, future...
Just tonight, I stood before Cisco's dam at the door
to her stall, thanking God that I had a barn for my
lovely
friend of 21 years to stand in. See, it's 46 below
with the wind chill and "Cody" is packing
what could be her last foal.
She's blind in one eye and deaf in one ear, but she knows
my footsteps as I reach the door. She knows my smell
and she knows my whistle. She knows me.
I smile as she talks to me, "hub bubs" I
call it, and comes to the door- She bumps me with her
nose,
she's looking for me to rub her eyes. She's a touch-me-not,
but loves for me to touch her there- just that one
spot.
As I cup her eyes with my hands and rub back and forth I
get pretty choked up and I lay my head on her forehead.
A few tears roll down my cheeks as I think of when she
will leave me and all that we've shared. |
