Montana Bandmasters Association

College Scholarship

The Montana Bandmasters Association recognizes the need for good band directors in the state of Montana.  In order to further this belief, the MBA has established this scholarship in the amount of one hundred dollars ($100.00) to be awarded to a college student who will be going on to become a Band Director.

At the time of application, the applicant must meet the following criteria.

1. Must be a third year undergraduate music education major.

2. Must have a wind or percussion instrument as their principal applied area.

3. Must submit a letter of application.

4. Must submit a taped audition showing the applicant's musical and technical abilities.  Content of this tape to be determined by applicant in consultation with their band director and/or applied instrument teacher.

5. Must submit letters of recommendation from:

   • current band director
   • administrator or faculty member
   • private instructor
6. Must maintain a B (3.0) cumulative grade point average.
7. Must currently be enrolled in a Montana University/College.
8. The nominating band director or applied teacher must be a member in good standing of the Montana Bandmasters Association.

Applications and supporting material must be postmarked by May 1, 2000.

Applicants will be notified prior to the start of  the 2000-2001 school year.  Payment will be made following the end of the first semester/quarter providing the student has fulfilled the required criteria.  If the principal recipient does not fulfill the requirements then the scholarship will be awarded to the first runner-up.
